Irish Manchester Revisited

Welcome to this third book in the series 'Irish Manchester'. As with the first two books Alan Keegan & Danny Claffey have delved into the past to give you a glimpse of what the Manchester Irish community and their families and friends were getting involved in, mostly in their social, sport and leisure time.

Many of you may remember some of the old Irish dance halls depicted in the book; you may have danced in one of the places or even met your life partner in one of the popular establishments.

The Irish settlers in Manchester have always been a very social, gregarious group, which you will witness for yourself in the many historic photographs inside. Many of the Irish pubs and clubs where many of the photographs were taken have now long gone or have been demolished, but memories live long.

Take a look, if you live or have lived in the Manchester area you may find a photo of yourself, if not, you will more than likely find a relative or old friend on one of the pages. Many people in the book are no longer with us, many people depicted as children are now in their 30's, 40's and 50's with their own families now.

It doesn't matter where you are from or what age you are, take a peek into the past, see how the Manchester Irish helped to make the city as vibrant as it is today. Irish Manchester Revisited is a true reflection of the Irish community in Manchester.
